Houston attorney sentenced for drugging wife's drinks with abortion-inducing drugs

A Houston attorney, Mason Herring, has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years on probation for spiking his wife's drinks with abortion-inducing drugs. Herring pleaded guilty to injury to a child and assault of a pregnant person, after initially being charged with felony assault to induce abortion.
Wife's dissatisfaction with the sentence
His wife, Catherine Herring, who has filed for divorce, expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence, stating that their 1-year-old daughter, born premature with developmental delays, attends therapy eight times a week. She emphasized that 180 days was not sufficient justice for the harm caused to her child.
Suspicions and Evidence
Catherine Herring became suspicious of her husband's actions when she fell ill after drinking a cloudy substance he had given her, and later found packaging for misoprostol, a drug used to induce abortion, in the trash. She provided police with videos from hidden cameras showing her husband mixing a substance into her drink.
Attorney's reaction
Mason Herring's attorney, Dan Codgell, considered the plea deal and sentence to be reasonable, stating that Mason had accepted his responsibility for the situation.
