Idaho Man Sentenced to Death for 2019 Murders Following 'Doomsday' Case

An Idaho judge delivered the sentence of death to Chad Daybell, 55, on Saturday. The decision was made just two days after Daybell was found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges related to the 2019 killings of his first wife and two of his current wife's children. The case had drawn attention due to the couple's "doomsday" religious beliefs.

Jury Recommendation and Sentencing

The jury spent over a day deliberating during the special sentencing proceeding at the Ada County District Court in Boise, Idaho. Ultimately, they recommended the death penalty. Following this, Judge Steven W. Boyce of the Seventh Judicial District announced the final sentencing decision. As the judge read out the sentence, Daybell remained expressionless at the defense table, with his hands in his lap. His defense lawyers had no questions when asked by the judge.
