Identification of Additional 9/11 Victim

We are pleased to inform the community that the remains of an individual who perished in the 9/11 attacks have been positively identified. The individual, John Ballantine Niven, a 44-year-old executive at Aon Risk Services, was located at the World Trade Center, where he was working at the time of the tragic events. The Niven family expressed their gratitude for the diligent efforts of officials in identifying the remains. This discovery marks the 1,650th victim to be identified from the 9/11 attacks. Mayor Eric Adams also extended his appreciation for the ongoing work to honor the memory of John Ballantine Niven and all the victims. The medical examiner's office has been utilizing advanced DNA analysis in recent years to identify the remains of the victims. This development brings hope to the families of the victims and allows for a sense of closure. Despite the passage of time, efforts to connect the remaining unidentified remains to individual victims persist. The 9/11 attacks had a profound impact on the nation, and the continuous efforts to bring closure to the families of the victims are deeply appreciated. We honor the memory of all those affected by this tragedy.
