The Orland Park Police Department reported that Schmidt was charged with multiple counts, including aggravated battery and resisting arrest.

The incident occurred on November 3, 2024, at approximately 11 a.m. Police responded to reports of a commotion in the voting line at the Orland Park Township Office. Upon arrival, officers found Schmidt restrained by several individuals inside the building. It was revealed that Schmidt had disregarded the waiting line and attempted to bypass numerous voters.

Refusal to Comply

When confronted by an election judge at the entrance, Schmidt was informed to return to the end of the line to await his turn to vote. However, Schmidt allegedly refused to comply with the judge's instructions. Another election judge intervened, reiterating the request for Schmidt to return to the back of the line. Schmidt allegedly attempted to push past the second judge, leading to a physical altercation in which he punched the election judge and knocked off the judge's glasses.
