Independents Seek More from Kamala Harris as She Sparks Enthusiasm in Democratic Party
Teri York-Singleton, undecided voter, seeks more from Kamala Harris despite her rally success and fundraising, highlighting pressing social issues.

Teri York-Singleton is firm in her decision not to support Donald J. Trump in the upcoming November election. The head of a nonprofit in the Detroit area, Ms. York-Singleton was raised in a Democratic family but now identifies as a political independent. Although she finds Vice President Kamala Harris's recent entry into the presidential race to be a positive development, she is seeking more information about Ms. Harris's policies before making a decision. As a 68-year-old voter, Ms. York-Singleton emphasizes the importance of addressing issues such as the high costs of medication, affordable child care, and homelessness. She expresses her concern about individuals who are forced to work multiple jobs just to cover their rent expenses.
Ms. Harris's Impact on the Democratic Party
Kamala Harris's candidacy has generated significant enthusiasm within the Democratic Party. Her rallies are drawing immense crowds, and she has successfully raised substantial funds for her campaign. A recent poll by the Pew Research Center revealed that Ms. Harris's presence has bridged the enthusiasm gap between Democrats and Republicans. Among Harris's supporters, a substantial 62 percent expressed strong support for her, whereas only 43 percent of Biden's supporters indicated similar enthusiasm for him in July. On the other hand, a considerable 64 percent of former President Trump's supporters characterized their backing for him as strong.
As the November election approaches, the candidates' ability to address the pressing issues faced by constituencies, like that of Ms. York-Singleton, will be pivotal in shaping the voter sentiment.
