Indian Men Lured to Russia
In recent months, several Indian men have been lured to Russia with the promise of job opportunities, only to find themselves forced to fight at the front lines against their will. The families of these men are now grappling with the tragic consequences of this deceptive recruitment.
Tragic Stories Emerge
One such individual, Mohammed Asfan, originally from Hyderabad, left behind his managerial position at a clothing store to pursue a job in Russia after being enticed by a YouTube post. Tragically, he ended up in Ukraine, where he was compelled to fight and ultimately lost his life. His family was devastated to learn of his fate and is now awaiting the return of his body to India.
Similarly, Hemil Mangukiya, a 23-year-old embroiderer from Gujarat, fell victim to false promises and was also coerced into fighting after arriving in Russia. His family received the heartbreaking news of his death two days after the fact and is still awaiting the arrival of his body for funeral rites.
In addition to these cases, several other men have reached out through videos on social media, seeking assistance from the Indian authorities to return from Russia. Their testimonies paint a disturbing picture of being misled and then forced into military service under threat of severe consequences.
Government Response
India's foreign ministry has acknowledged the issue, confirming efforts to secure the release of individuals unlawfully trapped in military service in Russia. Their commitment to addressing this matter and ensuring the safe return of these men to their homeland is paramount.
Seeking Accountability
These distressing accounts underscore the urgency of holding accountable those responsible for deceiving and coercing innocent individuals into participating in a conflict they never signed up for. The families of these men, as well as the broader community, are left grappling with the profound loss and seeking justice for their loved ones.
