Indiana Police Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Man After Officer is Injured in Scuffle
A man in Indiana was fatally shot by police after cutting an officer's face with a knife during a scuffle.
On Wednesday, a police officer fatally shot a knife-wielding man in central Indiana after he cut an officer in the face during a scuffle. The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. when three officers responded to a call from a woman who reported that the man had arrived at her apartment earlier than the scheduled time to visit his child.
¿What happened?
According to Beech Grove Deputy Police Chief Tom Hurrle, the mother was unwilling to relinquish the child as it was still dark and well before the planned time. The man, upon arrival, insisted on picking up his child, drew a knife, and threatened officers, stating that they would have to shoot him.
Subsequently, the officers attempted to physically restrain the man using a Taser, but he managed to slash one of the officers in the face. In response, another officer fired a single shot, which proved to be fatal.
Injuries and Investigation
As a result of the altercation, the officer who was cut also suffered a minor ankle injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The police did not immediately release the identity of the deceased man. Moreover, the Indiana State Police have taken over the investigation. State police Sgt. John Perrine mentioned that it was unclear which of the three officers fired the fatal shot. Subsequently, all three officers involved were placed on administrative leave, following the standard procedure after shootings involving police officers.
