Authorities found 61 pounds of cocaine in a woman's luggage at Chicago Midway Airport.
Authorities have apprehended 27-year-old Chania R. Logan from Indianapolis after finding 61 pounds of cocaine in her possession at Chicago Midway International Airport. The Drug Enforcement Administration Chicago Division conducted a consensual search of her luggage, which led to the discovery of 31 pounds of suspected cocaine. It was also reported that she had traveled to Chicago from Los Angeles in the company of another individual.
Escape Attempt
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the second individual, who remains unidentified, attempted to flee from law enforcement and abandoned two bags at the scene. This evasion led to the seizure of a total of 61.7 pounds of cocaine.
Legal Action
Following her arrest, Chania R. Logan appeared before Judge William N. Fahy and was ordered to be placed under electronic monitoring. She is facing charges of controlled substances trafficking and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, as indicated by the authorities.
Previous Incidents
This incident follows a previous case in Memphis involving a young woman who was found with 56 pounds of marijuana in her luggage. The individual was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intention to manufacture, deliver, or sell.
Estimated Value
Although the exact value of the confiscated drugs is currently unknown, similar busts in the past have resulted in substantial valuations. For instance, in 2021, a woman attempting to smuggle 59.73 pounds of cocaine was estimated to be carrying contraband valued at approximately $948,000 by California's El Centro Sector Border Patrol.
