
Inmates Captured After Escaping Mississippi Jail While Awaiting Murder Trials
Two murder suspects, Tyrekennel Collins and Dezarrious Johnson, have been captured after escaping a Mississippi jail.

Authorities confirmed on Saturday that the two inmates who had escaped from a jail in Mississippi, while awaiting trial for murder, have been captured after a manhunt. Tyrekennel Collins, 24, and Dezarrious Johnson, 18, were both found inside an abandoned home in Claiborne County. The escape occurred on Friday from the Claiborne County Detention Center. Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods provided the details of the capture.
Escape and Capture
Collins and Johnson were captured after escaping through the ceiling and leaving behind an outside wall at around 2:20 a.m. They were seen on surveillance footage during the escape. Johnson sustained an injury to his right leg during the escape, causing him to walk with a "bad limp," as reported by the sheriff’s office.
Dangerous Suspects
Authorities informed the public about the dangerous nature of the escapees during the search. Both Collins and Johnson were awaiting trial on murder charges in separate counties.
Collins is charged with the October 2023 murder of his cousin in Copiah County, while Johnson is charged with murder and aggravated assault in Jefferson County stemming from an October 2022 incident, according to WJTV-TV. Johnson's trial was scheduled to commence on Oct. 15.
Arrest and New Charge
Collins and Johnson were taken into custody at an abandoned home on Saturday. They are now each facing a new charge of escape, according to Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods.
