Iran Mourns President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdollahian Killed in Helicopter Crash

Today, the nation of Iran is in mourning following the tragic deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. The country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, led funeral prayers in honor of the deceased president.

The funeral observances began with a solemn procession in Tabriz, near the crash site, before the bodies of the late president and the others were taken to the holy city of Qom and then to the capital, Tehran, where thousands of mourners gathered to pay their respects.

National Day of Mourning

Wednesday was declared a national holiday, and state television announced that public transportation would be free to enable people to attend the funeral. The city's security forces enforced tight restrictions on vehicle movement and parking in the area of the funeral processions.

This morning, thousands of Iranians made their way to the University of Tehran, where the flag-draped coffins of the president and the foreign minister were placed in a large hall. The outpouring of grief and solidarity was visible as the nation came together to honor the lives of these two prominent figures.
