Israeli Ground Assault Displaces Tens of Thousands in Southern Gaza, Peace Talks Urged
Israeli ground assault in Gaza displaces tens of thousands; troops engage in combat, escalating conflict despite calls for peace talks.

An Israeli ground offensive in the southern Gaza Strip on June 15 resulted in tens of thousands of Palestinians fleeing their homes and shelters for the third time or more. The Israeli military's order for residents in Khan Younis to evacuate saw between 60,000 to 70,000 people abandon their homes, as reported by UNRWA. The military operation involved ground troops, fighter jets, helicopter gunships, and paratroopers attacking over 30 targets. The purpose was to degrade Hamas' capabilities as they attempted to regroup.
Desperate Exodus
Under the scorching sun, women with babies and blankets, men with carts and wheelchairs, and young children with suitcases and backpacks fled their homes towards unknown destinations. The chaos and desperation were palpable as some evacuees were seen in tears.
In the midst of this turmoil, the United States and some Arab allies urged both Israel and Hamas to resume peace talks, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution to the escalating conflict.
