Israeli Troops Encounter Strong Resistance in Gaza City Neighborhood, Uncover Hamas Weapons Caches
Intense battles in Gaza City left the neighborhood of Shajaiye in ruins, with homes destroyed and streets dug up. Israeli troops encounter strong resistance from Hamas fighters.

After weeks of fierce clashes between Hamas militants and Israeli troops in the Shajaiye neighborhood of Gaza City, the area lay in ruins as residents and rescue workers searched through demolished buildings and recovered numerous casualties.
Unlivable Conditions
Returning residents described Shajaiye as completely uninhabitable, with homes reduced to rubble, and essential establishments such as bakeries and shops destroyed. Even the streets bore the scars of the conflict, as they had been torn up during the fighting. The devastation left in the wake of the battle was described as immense.
Israeli Troop Encounters
Israeli forces, nine months into the war in Gaza, faced strong opposition from Hamas fighters as they re-entered areas previously under their control. Additionally, they reported discovering weapons caches belonging to the militants.
As part of a broader Israeli campaign to quell renewed Hamas resistance in Gaza City, the military announced on Friday the successful "elimination" of Ayman Showadeh, the deputy commander of Hamas's Shajaiye Battalion. Showadeh, described as a pivotal figure at the group's operations headquarters, was implicated in directing the October 7th Hamas-led attack that triggered the conflict in Gaza.
