Italian Captain Under Probe for Superyacht Sink, Killing 7, Including Tech Billionaire
James Cutfield, the superyacht's captain, is being investigated in Italy for possible manslaughter after the vessel sank.

Italian authorities have initiated a formal investigation into James Cutfield, the captain of a superyacht that sank off the Sicilian coast last Monday, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven individuals on board, including UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch. Cutfield is being probed for potential manslaughter and determining if his actions may have caused the shipwreck, as disclosed by his attorney, Aldo Mordiglia.
In the Italian legal system, being placed under investigation does not necessarily mean formal charges will be filed, and currently, there are no travel restrictions imposed on Mr. Cutfield, as per Mr.Mordiglia.
Prosecutor's Remarks
On a subsequent Saturday, prosecutors noted that while no arrest warrants had been issued for the crew, they anticipated full cooperation from the crew members with the investigation and their availability for further inquiries. The majority of the crew members were still present in Italy on the Monday following the incident. Prosecutors refrained from providing additional remarks in response to the investigation news on the following Monday.
