John Walsh Condemns Border Crisis and Warns of Child Trafficking Amid Tragic Immigrant Death
John Walsh condemns border situation and child trafficking. An immigrant from Honduras died after falling in Texas hospital post-release.
An unidentified woman from Honduras passed away on April 4, 2024, while receiving treatment at the Brooks Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The woman, who had been arrested by Texas state troopers near the Travis D. Kelly Hydroelectric Water Plant, fell ill and was taken to a hospital, where she ultimately lost her life. The circumstances surrounding her death have raised concerns about the treatment of migrants in border custody, particularly their access to medical care.
After being apprehended, the woman was taken to the Val Verde Processing Center in Del Rio, Texas, where she experienced difficulty breathing. Subsequently, she was charged with criminal trespassing in Maverick County and a judge ordered mental health services for her due to concerns about her mental illness or intellectual disability.
Following her time at the Val Verde Processing Center, the woman was transferred to the Lopez State Jail in Edinburg, Texas, and later released before being moved to the Jim Hogg Temporary Processing Center in Hebbronville, Texas.
Health Complications and Tragic Outcome
While in custody, the woman was diagnosed with pneumonia and received treatment at the Laredo Medical Center. Despite being released from the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), she remained in the hospital for continued care. However, on March 30, 2024, she suffered a fall in the hospital, resulting in a subdural hematoma.
Her condition deteriorated, and on the morning of April 1, 2024, she required intubation and was subsequently transferred to BAMC in San Antonio, Texas, for advanced medical care. Tragically, two days later, she passed away.
Call for Answers and Action
The circumstances of the woman's time in border custody, her access to appropriate medical care, and the events leading to her death have prompted calls for a thorough investigation and potential reforms to ensure the well-being and safety of individuals in similar situations in the future.
This incident has also reignited discussions about the treatment of migrants in U.S. border facilities and the need for comprehensive solutions to address the complexities of immigration and border security.
