Judge questions prosecutors' request to limit Trump's inflammatory statements on FBI
Judge Aileen M. Cannon questioned prosecutors' request to limit Donald J. Trump's statements about the F.B.I. to protect agents in a legal clash.

On a recent hearing in Federal District Court in Fort Pierce, Fla., judge Aileen M. Cannon posed challenging inquiries to the prosecutors regarding the case of former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents. The prosecutors urged the judge to prevent Trump from making statements that might threaten the safety of F.B.I. agents involved in the case.
Refusal to Impose New Conditions
During the hearing, Judge Cannon seemed resistant to imposing new limitations on Trump's speech about the F.B.I. Prosecutors had requested these restrictions after Trump made false claims about federal agents being "locked & loaded ready to take me out" during a search at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence. The authorized search was pivotal, leading to the discovery of over 100 classified documents retained by Trump after leaving office.
This hearing marked the latest clash between Trump’s legal team and the office of special counsel, Jack Smith. The focal point was the challenge of balancing Trump’s right to criticize the government against protecting the case participants from potential violence or harassment due to his provocative statements.
