Julie Chrisley Faces New Sentencing After Appeal Court Orders Reevaluation of Bank Fraud Sentence
A federal judge was set to re-sentence reality TV star Julie Chrisley following an appeals court's order for a new sentence due to a legal error.

In a significant development, Julie Chrisley, a reality television personality known for her appearances on “Chrisley Knows Best”, is facing a resentencing after a federal appeals court found an error in her initial sentencing related to bank fraud and tax evasion charges. This comes as a result of legal proceedings that have captivated the public and raised questions about accountability and justice.
The Chrisley Family Saga
Julie Chrisley, along with her husband, Todd Chrisley, rose to fame through their reality television show, which showcased their close-knit family and luxurious lifestyle. However, in 2022, a jury found the couple guilty of conspiring to defraud community banks out of over $30 million in fraudulent loans. Additionally, they were convicted of tax evasion for concealing their true earnings from the authorities. Their accountant, Peter Tarantino, was also found guilty of conspiracy and filing false tax returns in connection to the case.
Significant Repercussions
As a consequence of their convictions, Julie Chrisley was initially sentenced to seven years in federal prison, while Todd Chrisley received a 12-year sentence. The couple was also ordered to pay $17.8 million in restitution for their fraudulent activities. These penalties were intended to serve as a deterrent and ensure that those found guilty of such serious offenses faced appropriate consequences.
Following their sentencing, the Chrisleys filed appeals challenging various aspects of their convictions and sentences. Their accountant, Tarantino, also sought to have his conviction overturned and requested a new trial. The appellate judges, while upholding most of the convictions and sentences, identified a notable error in the handling of Julie Chrisley’s case during the sentencing phase.
After a thorough review, the eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals concluded that the trial judge had improperly held Julie Chrisley accountable for the entire bank fraud scheme dating back to 2006. The appellate panel emphasized that there was insufficient evidence to establish her involvement in the fraud during that year. Instead, they found adequate evidence linking her to fraudulent activities starting in 2007.
Current Status of the Chrisleys
As it stands, Todd Chrisley is currently serving his sentence at a minimum-security federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, with a scheduled release date in September 2032. Julie Chrisley, on the other hand, has been held at a facility in Lexington, Kentucky. Peter Tarantino, the couple’s former accountant, is residing in a halfway house in the Atlanta area and is set for release in March.
