Former Alabama standout and Kansas City Chiefs player Isaiah Buggs accused of animal cruelty

Former Alabama star Isaiah Buggs faces animal cruelty charges in Tuscaloosa after two dogs were found neglected at his rented home.

On a recent development, former Alabama football standout Isaiah Buggs, who is currently a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, is facing serious allegations of animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa. The accusations were disclosed in civil documents obtained by Tuscaloosa Patch on a recent Wednesday.

Disturbing Details Uncovered

The case revolves around an incident that took place on March 28, when the police received a report about dogs left unattended on the back porch of a property rented by Buggs. It was revealed that Buggs had vacated the property on March 19 owing over $3,100 in back rent. Upon investigating, City of Tuscaloosa's Animal Control officers made a shocking discovery. They found a grey and white pitbull confined on the screened-in back porch with no access to food or water. Additionally, a black Rottweiler mix was found locked in a metal cage under direct sunlight also without access to food or water.

Severe Neglect

It was reported that the dogs had been abandoned on the back porch for at least 10 days. Both animals were seized as they were in a severe state of malnourishment, emaciated, and neglected. Tragically, the pitbull had to be euthanized in April, while the Rottweiler is currently under the care of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Animal Shelter.

Legal Action

Authorities have taken swift action by obtaining two misdemeanor warrants for second-degree cruelty to dogs or cats. Despite their efforts to contact Buggs on March 28, their attempts were futile. Buggs, 27, was a part of the Chiefs' practice squad before signing a reserve/future contract with the team in February. Notably, he was a 2019 sixth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a stint with the Detroit Lions in 2022, amassing 89 tackles and two sacks in 56 career regular season games.
