Kyle City in Texas falls short in attempt to break world record for largest name gathering

On May 18, 2024, the city of Kyle, Texas, attempted to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with one name by organizing a meeting for individuals named Kyle. Unfortunately, the attempt fell short despite 706 Kyles of all ages turning up at a park in the suburbs of Austin.

This was not the first time the city of Kyle had attempted to break the record. Last year, the official count at what has become known as the Gathering of the Kyles clocked in at 1,490. However, the current world record is held by a town in Bosnia, which achieved the feat with 2,325 people named Ivan in 2017, as confirmed by Guinness World Records.

Popularity of the Name Kyle

According to the Social Security Administration, the name Kyle is not among the most popular names in the U.S. In 2023, it was ranked 416th among male names, indicating that it is not a chart-topper compared to other names. In contrast, the name Ivan was ranked 153 in the same year.

It remains to be seen whether the city of Kyle, Texas, will make future attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people with one name.
