Maine man sentenced to 48 years for the murder of his girfriend

A Maine man, Raymond Lester, 37, received a 48-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, Nicole Mokeme, in a hit-and-run incident at Acadia National Park. Lester was found guilty of the crime after fleeing to Mexico.

Tragic incident at Acadia National Park

The tragic incident took place at the Schoodic Institute in Winter Harbor. Mokeme, a well-respected creative director, was a vital figure at the Rise and Shine Youth Retreat and an organizer of the Black Excellence Retreat 2022. Her untimely death occurred during the latter event, where she was last seen near a fire pit before her body was discovered the following day.

Authorities' pursuit and capture

The perpetrator, Lester, evaded authorities by traveling through multiple states, including Georgia and Texas, following the murder, before being apprehended by Mexican officials in Cancun about a month later.
