A tragic incident unfolded at a beachfront restaurant on the Spanish island of Majorca, as part of the establishment collapsed, leading to devastating consequences. The occurrence, which transpired on Thursday at approximately 8 p.m. local time, resulted in the loss of at least four lives and left 16 individuals injured. Moreover, there are concerns that additional individuals may be trapped within the debris.
Structure of the Restaurant
Prior to the collapse, visual evidence showcased the restaurant, Medusa Beach Club, as having three levels, complete with expansive terraces on the middle and upper floors, all of which were upheld by sturdy pillars.
Footage captured from various sources, including the state-owned broadcaster RTVE, exhibited that sections of the terraces had given way, plummeting down to the ground floor. Meanwhile, rescue personnel, equipped with protective gear, diligently scoured through the rubble in an attempt to extricate victims from the wreckage. The extent of the damage encompassed areas beyond the terraces, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
