Man Accused of Breaking into Los Angeles Mayor's Home Claims Drug-Induced Confusion
Man on methamphetamine binge broke into LA Mayor's home, claiming he didn't know it was hers, faces charges but left belongings.
Ephraim Hunter, the man accused of breaking into the residence of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, recently made a shocking revelation in an interview with Jon Baird of KNX News. The incident took place last month, and Hunter claimed that at the time, he was unaware that the property he entered was the Getty House, the official residence of the mayor.
Under the Influence of Methamphetamine
Hunter confessed that he was under the influence of methamphetamine, leading to a five-day binge. He explained that he had a delusion of being pursued and sought refuge, mistaking the Getty House as a safe haven.
Unintentional Target
During the interview, Hunter emphasized that he had no intention of targeting the mayor or being involved in politics. He even clarified that he is not eligible to vote. Contrary to some reports, Hunter denied calling out for the mayor, insisting that he was actually seeking his brother, Aaron.
Confrontation and Charges
Although Hunter did not encounter Mayor Bass inside the residence, he was confronted by individuals whom he believed to be the mayor's daughter and son-in-law. They instructed him to leave, but Hunter refused, leading to charges of vandalism due to a broken window. Additionally, he expressed his opinion that the charge of enhanced burglary was unfair as he did not steal anything and even left his phone and iPad at the Getty House.
Legal Proceedings and Detention
As a result of the charges against him, Hunter's bail was set at $100,000, with a $10,000 bond requirement. However, he has been unable to secure the bond and is currently held at Pitchess Detention Center North in Castaic since his arrest.
