Man claims to have skinned a kitten's face, mistaking it for a jaguar

Pennsylvania man mistakenly harms kitten, claiming it to be a jaguar.

On the first week of March, a bizarre incident unfolded in Pennsylvania, as a man mistakenly injured a kitten, believing it to be a wild animal. Richard Swangler, 56, called the police to a residence in West Hempfield Township, claiming that a black jaguar had entered the home. However, upon arrival, the officers found Swangler with scratch and bite marks on his arms, and instead of a jaguar, they discovered a 6-month-old kitten with severe facial injuries.

Recovery and Legal Actions

The kitten, named Nakia, had suffered significant injuries, including a "completely de-gloved" chin. The Organization for Responsible Care of Animals (ORCA), which is providing care for Nakia, expressed uncertainty regarding how such damage was caused by the man. Despite the severe injuries, Nakia is expected to make a full recovery.

Richard Swangler faced legal repercussions for his actions, as he was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, a felony, and was taken into custody due to outstanding probation violation warrants. Currently, he is being held at the Lancaster County Prison on a $15,000 bail.

Future of Nakia

While Nakia is expected to recover fully, the organization mentioned that she is not yet ready for adoption. Despite the traumatic incident, Nakia has managed to capture the hearts of many with her sweet personality and has received the love and care she deserves.
