Massachusetts Educators Plead for National Guard Deployment to Quell Violence at High School

A group of Massachusetts educators urges intervention
Concerns at Brockton High School
The educators are urging Gov. Maura Healey to send National Guard troops to Brockton High School to address what they called "shocking levels of chaos and violence" among students. They highlighted a recent increase in violence, security issues, and substance abuse at the school, as well as instances of students causing disruptions in classrooms and leaving the school grounds without permission. The educators believe that the National Guard's expertise in crisis management and community support could provide temporary intervention while a long-term solution is developed.
Request for Urgent Meeting
The Brockton School Committee members have requested an expedited meeting to discuss the deployment of the National Guard to the high school. Teachers at the school described the situation as being very unsafe, with a recent video of a violent fight at the school spreading online. Last May, three students were hospitalized, and five students were arrested in connection to a stabbing attack outside the high school.
