Mayor Adams Under Fire for Shifting Stance on NYC's Sanctuary City Policies and Border Crisis
On Wednesday, a violent incident occurred at a migrant shelter located across the street from Central Park in New York City. The New York Police Department (NYPD) responded to the 31 Central Park North shelter after receiving a 911 call reporting a stabbing at around 11:30 a.m. The victim, a 24-year-old man, was found by responding officers with stab wounds to his back and stomach. Fortunately, he was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Police Response and Investigation
A person of interest has been taken into police custody, although the motive behind the stabbing remains unclear. This incident occurred a day after Mayor Eric Adams announced plans to install metal detectors at a different migrant shelter on Randall’s Island in response to multiple stabbings at that location. In addition to this, Mayor Adams has been advocating for changes to the city's sanctuary city law and has urged the Biden administration to provide work papers for migrants. Furthermore, he has emphasized the need to address criminal behavior among the migrant population, stating, "I don’t believe people who are violent in our city and commit repeated crimes should have the privilege of being in our city."
Crime Involving Newly Arrived Migrants
New York has witnessed a surge in crime related to newly arrived migrants. Tragic incidents have included a group of migrants assaulting NYPD officers and a teenage migrant being accused of shooting a tourist in Times Square and engaging in a shootout with law enforcement officers during an attempted escape.
Legal Controversy
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has faced criticism following the initial release of migrants involved in an assault on police officers without any bail requirement. Fox News Digital has reached out to the DA's office for further comment on this matter.
