Mexican Military Reinforces Security in Tulum Amid Crime Surge

Tulum Authorities Increase Security Measures
Tulum authorities are increasing security measures in response to a rise in crime, aiming to create a safer environment for locals and tourists alike. Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announced the addition of 30 Mexican Navy members to the law enforcement presence in the Caribbean coastal destination, bringing the total military personnel to over 250. This deployment comes as a response to recent criminal incidents, including the tragic killing of a tourist at a Tulum resort in April. The U.S. State Department has also issued a travel alert for the area, advising increased caution, particularly after dark, in the beach resorts of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, due to previous instances of drug gang violence. In light of these events, the reinforcement of security forces in Tulum seeks to address concerns and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
