Michigan GOP chair Kristina Karamo officially ousted after internal feud

After weeks of chaos within the Michigan Republican Party, state party chair Kristina Karamo has been officially ousted, bringing an end to a tumultuous period marred by internal conflict.
The decision to remove Karamo came after a Jan. 6 vote citing inadequate fundraising and party infighting. The committee on contests ruled that Karamo's removal was justified, leading to the unanimous ratification of former Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra as her replacement by the RNC executive committee.
Karamo's tenure and removal
Karamo, a vocal election-denier with the support of former President Donald Trump, assumed the role of party chair last year following an unsuccessful bid for secretary of state in 2022. However, her far-right rhetoric alienated donors, compounded by financial issues, prompting some of her allies to join the effort to remove her.
Despite the January vote to oust her, Karamo rejected its legitimacy, further fueling chaos within the party. In response to the development, Karamo has not provided an immediate comment.
Hoekstra's new role
With the endorsement of Trump, Hoekstra now assumes the crucial role of leading the Michigan Republican Party. In a statement, Hoekstra emphasized the need to put an end to misinformation and division, urging Karamo to refocus on the party's efforts to re-elect Donald Trump.
