Michigan man found guilty of double homicide, including teenager

A man has been convicted of the murder of a teenager and a woman in northern Michigan, with one of the victims being buried in a backyard. Brad Srebnik was convicted of killing 17-year-old Brynn Bills and his girlfriend, Abby Hill.
Legal proceedings
The jury's decision was read in the Alpena County court, where Srebnik opted to remain in jail. His conviction carries a mandatory life sentence. The Attorney General, Dana Nessel, expressed hope that the convictions would bring some peace and healing to the community.
Discovery of victims
Bills, who was last seen in August 2021, had her body unearthed a month later in Joshua Wirgau’s yard in Alpena Township. Hill, aged 31, was found dead in a wooded area that fall.
Wirgau, an important witness for the prosecution, had also been charged in Hill's death but reached a plea deal. Wirgau testified that Srebnik had confessed to strangling Bills and being present when Hill was fatally shot. The jury also heard about drug use being a common factor in the group.
Defense and counterarguments
Srebnik's attorney suggested that his client might have been framed by a drug dealer who didn't like Bills, a theory that was dismissed by the Assistant Attorney General as "garbage."
