Montana man found guilty of capitol breach charges

A Montana resident and supporter of former President Donald Trump has been convicted of two felonies and four misdemeanors in connection with the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. Henry Phillip Muntzer, a 55-year-old appliance store owner, was arrested based on social media posts and videos taken inside the Capitol, and was found guilty of obstructing an official proceeding, civil disorder, and four misdemeanor charges after a bench trial before U.S. District Court Judge Jia M. Cobb.

Electoral college certification

Muntzer, who is set to be sentenced on June 20, was involved in physical confrontations with law enforcement officers in the Senate chamber and in the Capitol Rotunda. He claims he was unaware that the Electoral College certification was taking place that day and that he did not interfere with anything, stating that the Senate and House had both recessed by the time he entered the building.

Despite his conviction, Muntzer intends to appeal, arguing that he was not allowed to present all the evidence he was aware of, including some classified documents. In Dillon, Muntzer is known for displaying a pro-QAnon mural on the building that houses his appliance store.
