North Carolina's troubled Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, facing turmoil in his gubernatorial campaign due to allegations of past inappropriate online comments, is recovering from burn injuries sustained during a recent campaign event in Mt. Airy, according to his spokesperson Mike Lonergan.

Hospitalization and Ongoing Challenges

Robinson's health issue, confirmed by a campaign spokesperson, adds to the challenges he is currently navigating. The spokesperson emphasized that Robinson is currently receiving treatment for the burns, following an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy. While Lonergan reassured that Robinson is in "good spirits," details regarding his condition and the circumstances surrounding the injury were not disclosed.

This latest development comes on the heels of a bombshell CNN report revealing Robinson's alleged posting of inappropriate comments on a pornographic website's message board between 2008 and 2012, frequently under the alias "black NAZI." Since the publication of this report on September 19, Robinson has experienced significant fallout, including the resignation of several key campaign staffers, including his campaign manager, general consultant and senior adviser, finance director, and deputy campaign manager.

Panda over Support and Party Reactions

The scandal has also seemingly eroded Robinson's support within the Republican leadership. He has been noticeably absent from two North Carolina rallies headlined by Trump since the CNN report surfaced. When questioned by reporters regarding his endorsement for Robinson, Trump responded, "I don't know the situation," signaling potential uncertainty within the party regarding Robinson's candidacy. Furthermore, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's remark, expressing relief that there isn't a Senate race in North Carolina, indicates a lack of robust support for Robinson's campaign among key Republican figures.

Despite the mounting challenges and waning support, Robinson remains resolute in his decision to continue the campaign. He took to social media to assert, "This is an election about policies, not personalities. Now is not the time for intra-party squabbling and nonsense," signaling his determination to forge ahead despite the controversies surrounding him.
