Truck driver Peter Simon, 54, from Woodsville, New Hampshire, has been denied bail by a judge after a chain-reaction crash in Waltham, Massachusetts. The crash resulted in the deaths of Waltham police Officer Paul Tracey, 58, and a 36-year-old National Grid worker identified as Roderick Jackson.
Legal History and Mental Health Concerns
Simon has a history of run-ins with the law dating back to 1996 and has been involved in multiple criminal incidents. His lawyer mentioned that he has significant mental health issues. Simon's next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 29.
Prosecution and Charges
The prosecutor stated that Simon has a history of driving away from authorities and causing dangerous incidents, including leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing into a passenger bus. Simon faces charges including manslaughter, armed robbery, and assault. He has previously served time in the state corrections department secure psychiatric unit and in the state prison in New Hampshire.
