New Quinnipiac University Poll Shows President Joe Biden Narrowly Leading Former President Donald Trump

A new Quinnipiac University poll revealed that President Joe Biden holds a slight lead over former President Donald Trump, despite the majority of voters expressing concerns about Biden's age. Conducted from Feb. 15 to Feb. 19, the poll found that 49 percent of registered voters support Biden, while 45 percent back Trump in a hypothetical general election matchup. It also indicated that 67 percent of voters believe the 81-year-old president is too old to effectively serve another term, compared with 57 percent who expressed the same sentiment about Trump, who is 77. The poll further revealed that only 34 percent of respondents think Biden has the mental fitness to serve a second term, while 48 percent believe Trump is mentally fit. Age has emerged as a significant issue in both the GOP and Democratic presidential primaries. Against this backdrop, Trump’s primary opponent, former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, has taken aim at both men over their age. Similarly, Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips launched his challenge to Biden mainly due to concerns about the president's age rendering him unfit to run against the former president. The survey also captured public opinion on sending additional military aid to Ukraine, with 56 percent in favor and 44 percent against. Meanwhile, opinions on providing further military aid to Israel in the war with Hamas were evenly divided, with 48 percent opposing and 44 percent supporting it. The poll, which surveyed 1,421 registered voters nationwide, had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
