New Turkish Military Ammunition Factory in Dallas to Produce Shells for Ukraine

New arms plant in Dallas produces ammunition for Ukraine's war effort, funded by $61 billion aid package from Congress.

In a strategic location off Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway, a new era in American military ammunition production is taking shape. This facility, located in an industrial area outside Dallas, represents the Pentagon's first major arms plant constructed since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Unpacking and Assembly

Turkish workers, adorned in vivid orange hard hats, are diligently engaged in unloading wooden crates labeled with the name Repkon, a reputable defense company based in Istanbul. These crates contain components for the assembly of computer-controlled robots and lathes, essential for the production process.

Scale of Production

Once operational, the factory will manufacture approximately 30,000 steel shells monthly. These shells are specifically designed for the 155-millimeter howitzers, which have emerged as vital assets in Kyiv's war efforts.

It is reported that Ukraine utilized between 4,000 and 7,000 of these shells on a daily basis during several months in 2023, as confirmed by NATO’s secretary-general.

Resumption of Ammunition Shipments

Following a halt in Pentagon arms shipments due to funding delays, large consignments of American artillery ammunition recommenced in April. This resurgence followed the passage of an aid package by the Congress, allocating a substantial $61 billion in support to Ukraine.
