Newlywed Receives $863,300 Settlement After Wife Killed in Drunk Driving Crash

Aric Hutchinson receives $863,300 from Folly Beach bars, auto insurance, and rental car company after his wife's fatal wedding night crash.

A settlement has been approved for Aric Hutchinson, the husband of Samantha Miller, who tragically lost her life in a beach road collision caused by a drunk driver on their wedding night last year. The settlements, totaling about $1.3 million, will result in Aric Hutchinson receiving about $863,300 from several parties involved in the crash.

The Parties Involved

The collision occurred when driver Jamie Lee Komoroski crashed a rented vehicle into a golf cart carrying the newlyweds away from their wedding reception on April 28, 2023. The impact of the crash threw the golf cart 100 yards, resulting in the death of Samantha Miller and leaving Aric Hutchinson with a brain injury and multiple broken bones.

Reckless Behavior

Aric Hutchinson alleged in the wrongful death lawsuit that Komoroski had been excessively drinking at several bars around Folly Beach before speeding in her Toyota Camry with a blood-alcohol concentration more than three times the legal limit. Reports indicated that Komoroski was driving 65 mph on a 25 mph road at the time of the collision.

Despite the settlements amounting to $1.3 million, the final amount will be less after attorney and legal fees are paid. Meanwhile, Komoroski, who is facing serious charges, is out on bond as her case progresses through the court system. She has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death, reckless homicide, and two counts of felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.
