Oklahoma man charged with murder and kidnapping of Kansas women linked to anti-government group
Fifth member of anti-government group charged with murder and kidnapping of two Kansas women; held without bond in Guymon.
Today, a fifth member of an anti-government group was arrested and charged with the killing and kidnapping of two Kansas women. Paul Jeremiah Grice, 31, faces charges in Texas County, including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit murder.
Admission of Participation in Killings
According to an arrest affidavit, Grice confessed to an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent that he took part in the killing and burial of Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, both from Hugoton, Kansas.
Grice is currently held without bond at the Texas County Detention Center in Guymon, as confirmed by a jail official. However, it is not indicated in court and jail records whether Grice has legal representation to speak on his behalf.
Other Suspects
Four others have also been charged in connection with the deaths and are being held without bail. They include Tifany Adams, 54, her boyfriend Tad Cullum, 43, from Keyes, and Cole, 50, and Cora Twombly, 44, from Texhoma, Oklahoma.
Background of the Victims
Butler and Kelley went missing on March 30 while they were en route to pick up Butler’s two children for a birthday party. A bitter custody dispute involving Adams, the children's grandmother, was underway, as Butler was only allowed supervised visits with the children on Saturdays. Kelley was authorized to supervise the visits, according to the affidavits.
A witness informed Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents that all five suspects were involved in “an anti-government group with a religious affiliation.” The group, known as “God’s Misfits,” reportedly held regular meetings at the home of the Twomblys and another couple.
