Police arrested pro-Palestinian protesters at UC San Diego, dismantling their encampment, leading to 30 student detentions and one injury.

Monday, a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of California, San Diego was dismantled by the police, marking the first sweep by law enforcement since the demonstration began last week.

Arrests and Detentions

Police officers, wearing riot gear, arrested protesters and detained approximately 30 students, according to the university’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine. University officials and the U.C. San Diego Police Department have not yet provided official arrest numbers.

Police Action

Videos from the scene depicted police officers in riot gear, donning helmets and carrying batons, as they handcuffed protesters and removed them from the encampment.

The university confirmed that the police successfully dismantled the encampment. Additionally, it was reported that one person sustained a minor injury during the operation.

Student Demands

Last Wednesday, students established the encampment, demanding that the university denounce Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and advocate for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Their demands also included the severance of ties with Israeli institutions and divestment from weapons manufacturers or similar companies.
