According to a recent poll conducted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the University of Georgia, former President Donald Trump is leading the current President Joe Biden in Georgia. The survey, which included 1,007 registered voters, showed Trump with a 45 percent lead over Biden's 37 percent. However, approximately 20 percent of respondents were undecided or had alternative voting plans. The poll did not mention any potential third-party candidates. In addition, around 62 percent of participants expressed negative opinions regarding Biden's job performance, with the majority expressing strong disapproval. These figures align with Biden's generally low approval ratings both nationally and in Georgia.
Notably, Trump's victory in the recent Iowa caucus by a historic margin came after the survey was conducted. Additionally, the poll was held before a defamation lawsuit was won by two Georgia election workers against Trump associate Rudy Giuliani. It's important to note the survey's margin of error, which was plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points. The results from this poll indicate a potentially challenging reelection campaign for Biden, particularly in Georgia, where he narrowly won in 2020, marking the first Democratic presidential victory in the state since 1992.
