Powerball jackpot soars to $975 million as no winner matches numbers

The Powerball jackpot hit $975 million with no winner for 38 consecutive drawings, nearing the record of 41.

The Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $975 million after the six numbers drawn on Saturday night failed to produce a winner, marking an almost three-month period without a big winner.

Long Stretch Without a Winner

The winning numbers drawn on Saturday were 12, 13, 33, 50, 52, and the red Powerball 23. The absence of a jackpot winner since New Year's Day in Michigan, when a ticket hit for $842.4 million, has extended the streak to 38 consecutive drawings without a winner. This winless streak nears the record of 41 consecutive drawings, which occurred twice in 2022 and 2021.

Prize Details

The $975 million prize is for a sole winner who chooses an annuity paid over 30 years. If the winner opts for cash, they will receive $471.7 million. However, the prizes would be subject to federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery winnings.

Challenging Odds

As the prizes continue to grow, the drawings attract more ticket sales, making the jackpots increasingly difficult to win. The long odds for Saturday's drawing were 1 in 292.2 million.

The Powerball game is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
