Procter & Gamble Recalls Over 8 Million Bags of Liquid Laundry Detergent in U.S.
Procter & Gamble recalled over 8 million bags of liquid laundry detergent due to a risk of serious injury, including Tide and Gain products.

Procter & Gamble has issued a major recall of over 8 million bags of liquid laundry detergent packets in the United States. The recall, which includes popular brands such as Tide and Gain, was initiated due to concerns about a "risk of serious injury" related to the product packaging.
The recall, announced on Friday, April 5, pertains to specific lot codes of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets that were packaged in flexible film bags produced between September 2023 and February 2024. In addition to the 8.2 million bags recalled in the U.S., another 56,741 bags sold in Canada have also been affected by the recall.
Safety Concerns
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has highlighted that the outer packaging of these detergent packets, which are designed to prevent access to the contents, may split open near the zipper track. This poses a potential risk to children if the detergent is ingested, as well as a risk of skin and eye injuries.
Ingestion of a large amount of any surfactant-containing household cleaner could be fatal, particularly for individuals with underlying health issues.
Retailers and Consumer Guidance
The affected bags were sold at various major retailers across the country, including Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Target, Walmart, Sam's Club and The Home Depot. Consumers are advised to check the lot code on the bottom of the detergent package to determine if their product is impacted by the recall. The specific lot codes subject to the recall can be found on the official announcement.
It is crucial for individuals with the recalled detergent packets to stop using them immediately and follow the guidelines provided by Procter & Gamble for returning or disposing of the product to ensure safety.
