
Rare 200-year-old portrait of George Washington stolen from Colorado storage unit

A historical portrait of the first United States President, George Washington, dating back to the 19th century, was stolen from a storage unit in Englewood, Colorado. The theft, believed to have occurred in the middle of the night on Jan. 10, was only discovered later, leaving the authorities on the trail of the precious artifact.
Rarity and historical significance
The portrait, measuring approximately 24 inches by 30 inches and encased in a gold frame, has been in the family's possession for half a century. Crystal Essman from the Englewood Police Department expressed the rarity of such thefts, highlighting the historical significance of the painting.
Efforts for retrieval
The actual value of the painting remains undisclosed due to its historical significance, with the family expressing their desire to retrieve the treasured heirloom. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined forces with local law enforcement to locate the stolen portrait, seeking assistance from the public to aid in its recovery.
