The decline commenced with a notable 11% fall on Wednesday, when shares closed at $57.75. This prompted Hedgeye Risk Management to label Reddit's stock as "grossly overvalued," emphasizing the company's stock as being "on the short bench."

In a corporate filing earlier this week, Reddit revealed that CEO Steve Hoffman sold 500,000 shares, while COO Jennifer Wong offloaded 514,000 shares, retaining 1.4 million shares. Ben Silverman, VP of research at Verity, viewed this move as anticipated, describing it as only "a portion of his holdings." Silverman also noted the dual purpose of taking a company public, stating it can allow insiders to "generate liquidity" and expand the company.

Despite the recent decline, Reddit shares initially surged by 30% on Monday, followed by an 8.8% rise on Tuesday, closing at $65.11. However, New Street Research maintained a neutral rating on the company and did not amend its $54 target price, foreseeing "volatility into the first earnings report."
