Russia's ambassador to Japan warns of 'serious consequences' over Patriot missile systems
Russia's new ambassador to Japan warned of serious consequences if Japanese-made Patriot missile systems end up in Ukraine.

In a recent statement, the newly appointed Russian ambassador to Japan, Nikolai Nozdrev, issued a stern warning to Tokyo regarding the potential export of Patriot missile systems from Japan to Ukraine. He emphasized that if Japan were to export these missile systems, which are manufactured under U.S. license, to Ukraine, there would be grave consequences and retaliatory measures.
Monitoring Japanese Arms Exports
Ambassador Nozdrev expressed Russia's vigilance in monitoring Japan's arms exports, especially after Tokyo relaxed its export regulations at the end of the previous year. He specifically highlighted the scrutiny of any potential export of Patriot missile complexes and missiles produced in Japan under U.S. license, raising concerns about the possibility of these weapons ultimately ending up in Ukraine.
Consequences for Bilateral Relations
Nozdrev cautioned that if the Patriot missile systems were to reach Ukraine, it would severely impact the relations between Russia and Japan, leading to retaliatory actions from Moscow. He stressed the importance of preventing such a scenario to maintain the stability of bilateral ties.
This warning comes amidst heightened tensions and international scrutiny surrounding the conflict in Ukraine, with Russia making clear its stance on the potential transfer of military technology from Japan.
