Russian Air Strikes on Kyiv and Lviv Prompt Activation of Poland's Airspace Safety
Russia launched air strikes on Kyiv and Lviv. Ukraine's defense destroyed missiles, with no casualties. Poland activated aircraft near the border.

On Sunday, Russia carried out air strikes on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and the western region of Lviv. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, reported several explosions in the city after the air defense systems were activated to repel the attack.
Response from Ukraine
Ukraine's air defense forces successfully destroyed around a dozen missiles launched by Russia over Kyiv and its vicinity. According to Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, there were no initial reports of casualties or major damage resulting from the attacks.
International Reactions
U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink condemned Russia's actions, expressing concern for the safety of millions of civilians in Ukraine. She mentioned that this was the third consecutive morning with an air alert across Ukraine, urging the population to seek shelter due to the indiscriminate launches of drones and missiles by Russia.
Statements from Officials
The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, confirmed that there were no direct attacks on the city but informed about the launch of approximately 20 missiles and seven attack drones targeting critical infrastructure in the broader Lviv region.
Border Security Measures
Reports indicated that Russian missiles were flying close to the border with Poland, leading to the activation of Polish and allied aircraft to ensure airspace safety. The Polish armed forces warned about the potential increase in noise levels, particularly in the south-eastern part of the country as a result of this activation.
