Savannah Chrisley Opens Up About Her Parents' Imprisonment and Hope for Their Future
Savannah Chrisley discusses parents' imprisonment, legal challenges, and hope for family's reunification amid hardships and responsibilities as guardian.

Savannah Chrisley, the daughter of Todd and Julie Chrisley, who gained fame through their reality show "Chrisley Knows Best," is speaking about the impact of her parents' incarceration and expressing her optimism for their future. The couple was sentenced in November 2022 to a total of 19 years in prison following their conviction on charges of fraud and tax evasion. Todd received a 12-year prison sentence and 16 months of probation, while Julie was handed a seven-year prison term and 16 months of probation. Their case recently returned to a federal appeals court in Atlanta as they pursued an appeal challenging what they perceive as a judicial error.
During the 30-minute hearing at the appeals court, the Chrisleys' attorney argued for a new trial, contending that one of the witnesses had given false testimony and questioning the prosecution's knowledge of it. Although Todd and Julie were not physically present in court, they participated via live-stream from prison. Their daughter Savannah, who traveled from Nashville to support them, expressed her belief in the legal system and emphasized the need for accountability both for individuals and the government.
Savannah recounted the emotional farewell to her parents before they began their prison terms, describing the difficulty of facing the prospect of being separated from loved ones for such extended periods. Since her parents' incarceration, the 26-year-old has taken on the responsibility of caring for her younger brother Grayson, 17, and her niece Chloe, 11. Chloe, in particular, had been under the care of Todd and Julie due to their son Kyle's struggles with substance abuse. Savannah explained that it was an unspoken understanding within the family that she would step in to fulfill these parental duties.
Adapting to the New Reality
Savannah revealed that the family has been utilizing therapy to help them navigate the challenges imposed by their new circumstances. Both the younger family members are receiving weekly therapy sessions to aid them in coping with the significant changes in their lives. Despite the unfortunate need for the children to mature at an accelerated pace, Savannah expressed the importance of guiding them through these changes in a truthful manner.
After the Chrisleys' sentencing, their legal representative conveyed their intention to contest their convictions, asserting that the trial had been plagued by severe and recurring errors. The couple also raised concerns about the poor quality of food in prison. The Bureau of Prisons responded by stating that they do not comment on individual cases but emphasized their commitment to providing high-quality, nutritious meals. The family's attorney remarked that the recent hearing signified a minor triumph regardless of the eventual outcome, highlighting the judges' serious consideration of the matter.
Looking ahead, Savannah expressed her enduring hope for her family's reunion and her determination to stay positive and focused while awaiting their return. She emphasized the significance of keeping the image of her parents' homecoming at the forefront of her thoughts as a source of motivation.
