Minute by minute of the second presidential debate 2024: Kamala Harris vs. Donald Trump

This Tuesday, September 10, the second presidential debate took place with Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as protagonists, this after Joe Biden gave up his place to the vice president after her embarrassing role in the first debate last June.

This time the debate was held in Philadelphia and was broadcast by ABC with David Muis and Linset Davis as moderators.

Concluding remarks

Kamala Harris stated that the American people can create a new path to the future together by keeping ambitions in mind, investing in young families, protecting the elderly, overcoming the cost of living. It is also important to maintain respect for the military, that women can make decisions about their own bodies. Throughout her career what is important to her is the American people, to create a country that takes care of the future of its citizens.
Donald Trump pointed out that Harris has had three and a half years to do everything she has said she is going to do and has not done. He is going to end World War III, he is going to rebuild the military, in addition to singling out Biden as the worst president and Kamala Harris as the worst vice president.

How does climate change affect the United States?

Harris stated that in order to combat climate change, it must be taken into account that it is very real and that many people have been victims of climate change, young people are very interested in it and in her years as vice president, the production of clean energy has increased around the world. Trump, on the other hand, refuted everything said by the vice president, stating that China is the one who sells in the United States and that it will end up killing American workers. 

Does the skin color of Americans matter?

When questioned about Kamala Harris' racial identity, Trump stated that he didn't care how she identified, while Harris stated that it is a tragedy that “we have a person who wants to be president and wants to divide us because of our race.” 

Ukraine war

Asked if he wants the war to end, Trump stated that with one call he would end the war, which Biden has failed to do and which has brought the world into World War III, but that it should end the war in general, regardless of the winner. While the vice president reminded him that she is the candidate, not Biden and that she met with the president of Ukraine to talk about how it should defend itself against Russia. 

Israel - Hamas war

Harris affirmed that she will always support Israel, however a ceasefire is necessary where both countries win. While Trump claimed that during his administration there were no problems with Putin and pointed out that Harris hates Israel. “She hates the Arab population, it would never have happened with Trump in power,” so stated the former president. In view of this, Harris affirmed that she has always supported the Israeli people and that Trump wants to be a dictator, since he admires them. 

The attack on the Capitol

The former president was asked about what happened in the Capitol attack, to which he replied that his supporters went peacefully, but they do not prosecute migrants who came illegally to the country. 

Harris recalled that she was a senator and newly elected vice president when Trump made the call to attack the Capitol, he being the one who has already been singled out as a criminal and tried on the same issue. “Trump claimed there will be a bloodbath if he doesn't like the outcome of the election,” so stated Harris.

Immigration and U.S. border

Trump claimed that the Biden administration allowed millions of criminals to enter the United States, who have been run out of their countries and have entered North America, destroying the fence. Kamala Harris was upset, while Trump interrupted the mediator on multiple occasions. Harris recalled that the former president has already been convicted as a criminal for various crimes against the state.

What is happening with fentanyl use?

Kamala Harris affirmed that the use of fentanyl started since Donald Trump's administration, but that she will seek solutions to these situations, as millions of families have been affected by the use of fentanyl in the United States.

Trump mentioned that people want America to be great again, otherwise it would be Venezuela on steroids, as Springfield, Ohio has eaten its pets, to which the mediator stated that there is no evidence of this.

In response to allegations that hundreds of Republicans now support Harris, Trump said that these are people he fired because they were incompetent, which Biden and Harris have not done in the face of the international and economic problems facing the United States. 

Abortion in the United States

When asked about the issue of abortion, Donald Trump pointed out that abortion is a crime, but that each state should decide on the issue. The states are the ones in charge of carrying the votes, speaking one by one of those who have been in charge of carrying the issue on the political agenda.

While Vice President Harris noted that women should be able to be able to be held accountable for their own bodies, whether in the case of rape or not, she has spoken to several women about it and states that when such a law is passed, she will proudly sign such a law as the President of the United States. Trump claimed that everything Harris said were lies, because Democrats and Republicans wanted every state to talk about banning abortion.

Candidate introductions

After the mediators introduced themselves, Kamala Harris spoke about how she will help low-income people to lower inflation. While Donald Trump stated that while he was president there was inflation, but there were not the economic problems there are today, pointing to Biden and Harris as criminals.

Harris claimed that all Trump will do is tax the rich instead of helping the poor. As part of this finger-pointing game, Trump claimed that it has been thanks to Biden and Harris that the tariffs have been to blame for the economy in the country.
