The flight, identified as UX045, had to make an emergency landing in Natal, Brazil, after encountering turbulence over four hours into the journey from Madrid. The turbulence caused passengers to sustain head, neck, and chest injuries, with some suffering from shock.

Passenger Casualties and Hospitalizations

According to Brazilian public health officials, 36 passengers received treatment for various injuries, and 23 of them were admitted to the hospital. By Monday evening, five passengers remained hospitalized, with four of them in intensive care.

Official Statements

Authorities stated that several passengers had sustained neck and skull fractures due to the turbulence. Additionally, some passengers were treated for shock despite not having physical injuries.
