
Shooting at Detroit party leaves two dead, 19 injured

Early Sunday, a Detroit block party turned into a nightmare as gunfire erupted, resulting in the death of two individuals and injury of 19 others. The victims, aged between 17 and 27, were struck by bullets in the Mohican Regent neighborhood on the 13000 block of Rossini near Gratiot Avenue around 2:30 a.m.
The fatal victims were a 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. As of Monday, one person remained in critical condition as the rest of the injured individuals were expected to recover from their wounds.
Investigation Status
Detroit Police Chief James White stated in a press conference on Monday that the police are actively investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Local activist Sandra Turner Handy expressed her concern, emphasizing that such violence should not be considered normal, and called for proactive measures to combat this type of aggression. Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield characterized the incident as an "unspeakable tragedy" and emphasized the urgency in addressing gun violence as an epidemic in Detroit and across the nation.
Political Response
U.S. Rep Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat, voiced her dismay at the shooting, calling for urgent action to address the crisis and prevent further loss of lives.
