According to reports from CBS affiliate WJTV, the trail ride was organized after homecoming celebrations for Holmes County Consolidated Schools. During the event, a disagreement erupted among a group of young men, escalating into gunfire.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March confirmed the tragic turn of events and announced that law enforcement is actively pursuing the suspects involved in the shooting. The three victims have been identified as Martel Gibson (25) from Durant, Shundra Chestnut (19) from Kosciusko, and John Jenkins (19) from Durant. The incident occurred approximately 70 miles north of Jackson, the capital of Mississippi.
