Social media platform mistakenly suspends account of Russian opposition leader's widow

On Tuesday, the X social media platform reinstated the account of Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, following a temporary suspension. The platform, formerly known as Twitter, attributed the suspension to its defense mechanism against manipulation and spam, which had "mistakenly flagged" Navalnaya's account as violating its rules. In response to the situation, X Safety stated in a post on Tuesday that they had promptly unsuspended the account upon realizing the error and would be updating their defense mechanisms.
Prior to the account's restoration, Navalny's Anti-Corruption Foundation directed an inquiry to Elon Musk in a social media post, seeking clarification on the specific rules violated by Navalnaya. Notably, other accounts affiliated with Navalny, such as spokesperson Kira Yarmysh, did not appear to have been impacted by the suspension.
