Spain to Deport Over 60 Bolivians with False Visas Arriving on Cruise Ship
Spain to deport 60 Bolivians with false visas who arrived on a cruise ship in Barcelona, except for 4 with Spanish relatives.
Following an incident last week, Spain announced its decision to deport over 60 Bolivians who arrived in Barcelona via a cruise ship due to false visas.
Deportation and Repatriation
The Spanish government's office in Barcelona confirmed that 65 out of the 69 Bolivians will be repatriated to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, with the transportation expenses being covered by MSC Cruises, the operator of the ship from Brazil. However, four individuals with Spanish relatives will be permitted to stay in Spain.
Visa Issues and Consequences
It was reported that the Bolivian passengers were in possession of fraudulent visas for entry into the Schengen area, a border-free travel zone comprising 29 European countries. This situation led to a delay of two days for the cruise ship, affecting its Mediterranean route.
Resolution and Departure
The cruise ship was held in Barcelona until the matter was resolved, and the Bolivian passengers were temporarily accommodated on another vessel while undergoing police interviews. MSC Cruises had initially verified the passengers' documentation upon boarding in Brazil.
