Spirit Airlines CEO Ted Christie Steps Down Amidst Company Restructuring After Bankruptcy Filing
Ted Christie is stepping down as CEO of Spirit Airlines, which recently emerged from bankruptcy after years of losses and a failed merger.

Ted Christie, the CEO of Spirit Airlines, has announced his resignation from the company, effective Monday. In the interim, the airline will be led by a team of executives including Chief Financial Officer Fred Cromer, Chief Operating Officer John Bendoraitis, and General Counsel Thomas Canfield, until a permanent successor is appointed.
Leadership Change Amid Bankruptcy
Christie served as president and CEO of Spirit since 2019, guiding the airline through the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic. However, the company faced significant difficulties, leading to its filing for bankruptcy protection in November. The airline struggled with mounting losses, a failed merger, increased competition, and evolving consumer preferences. Notably, Spirit became the first major U.S. airline to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy since 2011. Fortunately, the budget carrier successfully emerged from bankruptcy protection last month, marking a significant milestone in its recovery.
The transition in leadership marks a pivotal moment for Spirit Airlines as it navigates the post-bankruptcy landscape. The interim executive team will play a crucial role in steering the company towards stability and future growth. The search for a new CEO is expected to be a top priority for the airline, as it seeks to appoint a leader who can effectively guide Spirit in its next phase.
